Net functional outcome poststroke

Paul J Friedman

Waikato Hospital, Hamilton, New Zealand

The functional outcome of 342 elderly stroke subjects was assessed by calculating the net Barthel activities of daily living score as the area under of the plot of Barthel score, measured at 7, 30, 60, 90, 120 and 180 days poststroke, and time. The net Barthel score was highly correlated with the Barthel score at the time of hospital discharge. Using generalized linear models, univariate predictors of net Barthel and discharge Barthel were similar. Hence, in this study population the net Barthel score offered no advantage over the discharge Barthel score as a outcome variable.
